Mission Valley contains three very paintable areas - two familiar, one less well known. Nearly everyone has noticed The Presidio, perched above the I-5/I-8 interchange. Equally famous is Mission San Diego de Alcala just east of Qualcomm Stadium. But not so many are acquainted with Mission Trails Park, a natural habitat area at the eastern end of the valley (shown on this map). It provides three distinct environments, described in more detail below. |

Presidio Park - Hwy-8 to Taylor St. to Presidio Dr. Enter driveway just north of Old town off Taylor St.Presidio at top of hill.

Mission San Diego De Alcala - Take 8 to Mission Gorge Rd. Turn west on San Diego Mission Rd. To paint inside the Quad area there is a $1.00 charge for seniors (55+) and $2.00 for other adults.

Mission Trails Park Interpretive Center - Hwy. 8 to Mission Gorge Rd. Northeast on Mission Gorge, left into park. Park around Visitor Center.

Mission Trails Park Padre Dam - Hwy. 8 to Mission Gorge Rd. Northeast on Mission Gorge, past main entrance to Father Junipero Serra Trail, turn left and follow down to dam.

Mission Trails Park Lake Kumeyaay - Hwy. 8 to Mission Gorge Rd. Northeast on Mission Gorge. Stay on Mission Gorge past the main entrance to Mission Trails Park, further north there is a second turnoff to Father Junipero Serra Trail. Turn left and then immediately watch for Lake Kumeyaay Campground entrance on the right. Free parking in day use area, a short walk down to the Lake and restrooms.
